Ice Man – A superhero in Ladakh

Chewang Norphel-I am Strongest

An extraordinary story of dedication of strength - Chewang Norphel solves water problems in Ladakh. Ladakh is a region of poor rainfall and around 80% of the locals rely on farming. Hence glacier and snowmelt are their primary sources of water, which is mainly used for irrigation. The farmers started facing scarcity in water during their sowing season (June) while the water that runs in the rivers during the winter months went waste as no farming was possible at that time. Using his engineering skills, Chewang Norphel started building ‘artificial glaciers’ which melt during the sowing season and have benefited the farmers of the region.

Like any usual day Sudhakaran was working hard in his small convenience store, in Kerala, when he got a call from a regular customer asking him to keep aside 10 lottery tickets. He set aside the tickets as requested and realised that one of those tickets had won the jackpot when results were announced later that evening!
